Apologetics - Design Argument for the Existence of God

Teleological Argument (Argument from Design)

Those who doubt the Scriptures must doubt that God can "say what He means and means what He says."  Those who choose to ignore God's wisdom are left with no answers to life's biggest questions...

Without God you cannot answer these questions…

Where do I come from?

Why am I here?

What is the meaning of life?

Where am I going after I die?

Why is there evil in the world?

If you start with the wrong assumptions you end up with the wrong answers to life's most important questions.

Christianity assumes that the universe is ordered and was designed, which then makes scientific pursuits logical.  If there is a pattern and God created man in His image, then we are equipped to be able to discern those patterns and discover God's creation and His Laws of Nature.  ~John Lennox

What are the odds?

Fine tuning of the expansion of the universe is 1 part to one hundred million billion billion billion billion to support life.   And we are to accept this is just a lucky coincidence….

Odds of life 1 to 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

The laws of nature don’t demand that these universal constants work out the way they do - they just "seem to be" randomly perfect.  If they are off by any measurable amount -- there is no life

Fine Tuning (Teleological) Argument

1 - The universe is fine tuned for life due to either physical necessity, chance or design
2 - The universe is not fine-tuned for life due to physical necessity or chance
3 - The fine tuning of the universe for life must be due to design.

How is design inferred?
  • Highly improbable situation
  • "Chance" outcome has discernable pattern or function
If you have both very long odds of something happening, and a very specific “recognizable” result, you can design can be inferred.

We are His Crown of creation

Ephesians 2:10  For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them. HCSB

1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are not like that, for you have been chosen by God himself—you are priests of the King, you are holy and pure, you are God’s very own—all this so that you may show to others how God called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.  Once you were less than nothing; now you are God’s own. Once you knew very little of God’s kindness; now your very lives have been changed by it. HCSB

·     An infinitely powerful force caused the universe to exist from nothing.

·    This cause is not contingent on anything else to exist; while everything in the universe contingently exists

·    The intricate and complex design everywhere infers an infinitely intelligent (omniscient) Creator

Is it more or less reasonable to infer that through necessity and specified design (fine tuning) that something non-material is a work here?
